Industrial Yard Slope Stabilising & Erosion Control

The site presented a steep and erosion-prone slope requiring stabilisation and long-term surface protection. There was a risk of soil loss during rainfall events, particularly before vegetation could establish, and the area needed a solution that could be installed quickly while maintaining slope integrity.

Several erosion control options were assessed with a focus on constructability, durability, and compatibility with hydroseeding and revegetation. The key drivers were ensuring immediate surface protection, maintaining soil retention, and achieving a low-maintenance long-term outcome.

MacMat R was selected due to its strong erosion control performance, reinforcement capability, and ability to support vegetation establishment. The product provided an ideal balance between short-term protection and long-term integration into the slope once vegetated.

MacMat® R is a reinforced geomat made from a polymeric three-dimensional matrix extruded onto a double twisted steel wire woven mesh 8x10 type made of Galmac® (Zn/Al alloy) and Polimac coated wire. The rolls were placed downslope, anchored securely, and overlapped to ensure continuous coverage. The material conformed well to the ground profile, allowing good contact with the soil surface and providing a stable base for hydroseeding.

This approach ensured immediate erosion protection, reduced the risk of washout during rainfall events, and provided a stable platform for hydroseed application and vegetation establishment, resulting in a reinforced and protected slope with long-term performance and minimal maintenance requirements.
