A surface erosion problem occurred at the first and second berm slope beside this expressway. If not treated properly, this problem may develop into a larger slope failure.

Instead of adopting a conventional method of using rubble pitch stone wall, Opus International has contacted Maccaferri for a ‘softer’ and environmentally friendly solution. After several meetings and discussions, Enkamat 7018 three dimensional (polyamide) mat combined together with double twist wire mesh netting was proposed and subsequently adopted. The mat and mesh are pinned down to the slope surface with 1.0m length Y25mm φ galvanised steel bar coupled with a concrete head. The surface was hydroseeded prior to the placement of the mat and mesh for a green surface to blend with the surroundings.
