Challenge

The canalization of a water course involves constructing channels with uniform cross-section. This is achieved by applying a protective lining to the banks and if necessary, to the bed. For this case, the total quantity of Reno Mattress used was 60,000 m2 laid all along the huge monsoon drain.

Solution

The function of the Reno Mattresses were to channel the massive water flow to the Paka River and at the same time, improve and protect the stability of banks against erosion. Reno mattress works well as channel lining because it allows water to seep through it, thus providing additional storage to an open channel. In addition, Reno Mattress will also promote vegetation growht on it.
