Challenge

Kg. Sungai Ikan, Terengganu is home for a landfill to cater solid waste which consists of unwanted surplus from many sectors such as commercial, construction, household and many others. The containment is running out of space for future unwanted surplus, therefore it was intended to raise the level of embankment of the retaining wall in order to increase the capacity of the landfill.

Solution

Maccaferri gabions have been used as a flexible embankment to raise the retaining wall in order to have a deeper containment and capacity for the pond. A total of 3000 gabions of 2m x 1m x 1m in size have been used to raise the platform. A total of 3m gabion wall in height provided a sturdy structure to the total area, covering approximately 6,000 metre run. High quality gabions are necessary for this project to sustain the level of containment at the landfil
