WEST CALGARY RING ROAD

Alberta Transportation with City of Calgary tendered the West Calgary Ring Road section which was part of a larger east-west trade corridor that will enhance markets in and out of Alberta, supporting economic diversification and sustained economic growth. Maccaferri proposed Vegetated Reinforced Slope System to all proponents as per the tender requirements. EllisDon Construction (awarded contractor) approached Maccaferri to Design and Supply a Reinforced Slope System working in association with AECOM Consulting who were appointed the geotechnical engineer by EllisDon Construction.

Sourcing of good quality granular material was one of the major challenges. The Maccaferri Para series of geogrids assisted in optimizing the cost of granular material by enabling the use of larger sized material. Maccaferri provided design using 150mm minus granular material for reinforced slopes with their ParaGrid 150 HF as the primary reinforcement. MacGrid EG20 and MacMat N10 were also used as part of the facing elements on the reinforced earth slopes.
