Challenge

During a two year rockfall mitigation project on Hwy 14/16/20 west of Cody Wyoming, the DOT encountered a questionable face of rock that could not be safely removed. The logical mitigation was to protect the highway with a 20' high dynamic rockfall barrier with a 2,000 kJ capacity.

Solution

Maccaferri has a tested 5 meter high, 2,000 kJ barrier. The ROC 200/A ringnet barrier fit the bill. Rock Solid Solutions out of Colorado was awarded the project and quickly assembled the barrier before winter set in.

The barrier was impacted by over 1,100 cubic yards of rock when a section of the road cut gave way on Memorial Day 2019. The barrier was leveled, but kept materials out of the lanes of traffic.
