SLOPE STABILIZATION AND PROTECTION AT ULU SLIM RIVER, PERAK

The local authority built a road by a rubber plantation for the public and residents living around Ulu Slim River, Perak. The slope contains high water table where water streams onto the road and created several slope failures along the stretch.

After careful considerations, Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Batang Padang adopted Maccaferri Gabions Retaining Wall to solve this problem and increase safety for road users. Gabion was selected due its porous and gravity retaining structure that allows water penetration and increases the overall stability of the slope. An U Drain was built at the toe to contain excess water table that are channelled our from the slope. The construction was cost effective, simple and speedy. It was completed within 2 months, with just 8 - 9 manpowers.
