Challenge

Deep in the heart of New Jersey’s historic Lackawanna Cutoff lies the iconic Roseville Tunnel, a vital link to the region’s transportation legacy. Decommissioned in 1979, it now faces a new chapter. Time and nature have taken their toll. Decades of freeze-thaw cycles, erosion, and water infiltration have weathered the historically stable slopes, creating instability and increasing the risk of rockfalls. These natural processes have left the tunnel’s surroundings vulnerable, making rockfall protection not just a precaution, but a necessity.

Solution

Designed for the toughest environments, Maccaferri’s MacArmour 3030 provides unparalleled rockfall protection. It combines a high-strength Cable net with double twist wire mesh, creating a robust structure to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure and the people who rely on it. The installation is a seamless process that combines expert planning and cutting-edge technology. The mesh is connected to an anchored top cable, which is achieved using the new Quick Connect System! This new system reduces installation time and improves installer productivity. The installation for the Roseville Tunnel project was expertly executed by Rock Supremacy, ensuring precision and quality throughout the process. Their experienced teams ensure every detail is completed to perfection, delivering a solution that stands the test of time.
