ROCKFALL PROTECTION TORANICA AND SASA MINE

Toranica and Sasa are two of the most important mines in the north-eastern part of North Macedonia, near the town of Makedonska Kamenitsa.

They are the largest mines with underground exploitation and have provided employment for the local community since 1966.

The access roads that lead to these mines were in dire need of slope protections as rock slides were becoming an increasing threat.

For the slope protections, we used a drapery system with double twisted wire mesh Zn netting.

The project started in Toranica in August of 2021, with the installation of 30,900 m² of DT wire mesh and continued in the Sasamine in December of the same year where Maccaferri successfully supplied 31,500 m² DT wire mesh.
