Challenge

Komani is the second and most powerful HPP of the Drin River Cascade. Work for its construction began in 1980. The plant was put into operation, at full capacity, in 1988. During all these years of operation a few interventions were done. The surge tank, located over the HPP, was always under the risk of rock falling.

Solution

Being in a difficult position to work on and the old road from the HPP to the surge tank was in bad condition, a new access road was constructed to reach the site.

To protect the Surge Tank and the HPP from rock falls they used soil nailing on the upper hill and rock fall barriers.

In total of 3240m2 of Rockfall Barriers and 7450m2 of DT NET were designed and installed.
